Nadal is coming to Paris
Having been eliminated at the quarter-final stage in Madrid, Rafael Nadal has already begun to focus on the BNP Paribas Masters, in which he will be competing for the very first time.
With the season almost at an end, how are you feeling?
I feel really good. I’m playing well at the moment and I’m going to do my best in the last two tournaments I’ve got left between now and the end of the year. I think I played some decent tennis in Madrid, but in the quarters I came up against Tomas Berdych (editors’ note: the winner of the 2005 BNP Paribas Masters) who produced a great match. But based on my overall end-of-season form, I hope to do well in the BNP Paribas Masters, and then in the Masters Cup in Shanghai.
Does it mean something special to you to come back to Paris, where you’ve won your two Grand Slam titles?
Yes, absolutely. I’ve always said that Paris is my favourite city and I’ve obviously got some fantastic memories of it. I always love coming back to Paris and I’m sure competing in the BNP Paribas Masters there will be quite emotional for me.
It’s going to be your first BNP Paribas Masters. What are your aims for the tournament?
It’s no secret that Taraflex is not my favourite surface… Indoors, I feel more at ease on GreenSet. But as usual, I’ll give it everything and will hopefully perform well in this city that I love.
First you’re taking part in the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris, then in the Shanghai Masters Cup, two events you’ve never entered before. What are you hoping to get out of this end of season?
I’ve got two very important tournaments ahead of me and I’m really hoping to do well in both. I’m also very excited at the prospect of my first Masters Cup which, like the BNP Paribas Masters, I had to pull out of last year due to injury.
